Underground Railroad – Hardship

I am teaching students about The Underground Railroad, and I want to focus on the theme of hardship. Harriet Tubman used her horrible experiences from slavery and channeled them into motivation when leading hundreds of others into freedom. I would use the Sophocles conversation in the unit when exploring Tubman’s escape and subsequent decision to pursue her cause, even though the consequences could have been dire and she had already faced extreme hardship in slavery.
