“For Whom the Bell Tolls” – Interdependence

I am teaching poetry and the poem “For Whom the Bell Tolls” by John Donne is the perfect poem to use when looking at the theme of interdependence. The Erik Erikson conversation could be interspersed around the work with the poem using the quote, “We need each other, and the sooner we learn that, the better for us all.” Students can spend a lot of time discussing and thinking about the interdependence inherent to our human experience.
