I’m studying World War II and want to look at the theme of sacrifice by exploring how the average citizen was made to contribute their heart and soul to defeat the enemy through volunteering, food rationing and the like. The Gandhi conversation would work just before starting the unit as a way to get kids to appreciate the value of sacrifice. It would also be interesting to try and reconcile America’s decision to fight in World War II with Mahatma Gandhi’s position on non-violence.
