Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling offers a great example of the theme of cooperation. Before reading the novel, I could use the conversation on cooperation and Helen Keller’s quote about accomplishing more when working with others. Throughout the novel, we could track examples of how Harry relies on the support of his friends to get him through the challenges of his first year at Hogwarts and his battle against Voldemort. We might then extend our conversation about cooperation to the topic of strengths and weaknesses and the idea that a great team takes advantage of each member’s strengths.
