Social Studies – Civic Responsibility

Civic Responsibility is a common theme in American history embraced by men and women such as Ida Tarbell, Dorothea Dix, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., all of whom tried to change society through protest or some other means. At the very beginning of the year, I could stage the Margaret Mead conversation as a way to frame the entire course and foreshadow for the students some of the historical figures they will learn about who made fulfilling civic responsibilities their life’s work.
