Julius Caesar is the perfect Shakespeare play to use when focusing on the theme of leadership. A huge aspect of the play is that it is a visceral exploration of essential questions relating to leadership: How hard is it to tell a good leader from a bad one? How do you know? The Lao Tzu conversation on leadership should be staged when the play reaches the climax of the story and the characters are debating these very questions, so that students can recognize their own thinking about what it means to lead others.
