I am teaching journalistic writing and a theme I want to focus on is that of sacrifice. Using the present real world context as a research subject, students can write a journalism article which reports the sacrifices citizens have made in the COVID-19 crisis, ranging from the very big to very small. The unit can begin with the Mahatma Gandhi conversation as a way of engaging with this complex idea of sacrifice, which will help students think about how many sacrifices are being made by people in their society right now, perhaps by the students themselves.
