Adventures of Huckleberry Finn – Character

One of the greatest moments in American literature occurs in Mark Twain’s novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, when Huck makes the decision to help Jim escape slavery, even though it goes against everything he has been taught. The theme of character and how student’s characters and beliefs can sometimes differ from what they are taught is a perfect connection to the conversation with George Washington. As Huck’s character revelation comes towards the end of the novel, I would use this as a post reading activity or essay topic.
