Where the Wild Things Are – Imagination

Students and readers of all ages cherish the classic tale by Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are, in which a young boy, Max, is sent to bed without his dinner. He embarks on an imaginative journey while he’s in his room, allowing him to escape from his unpleasant situation. The Albert Einstein conversation about imagination would be a great way to hook readers, by having a discussion of the power of dreaming and imagination. Once we read Where the Wild Things Are, I would discuss with students the ways in which Max’s vivid imagination helped him deal with his reality.
