When reading Aesop’s Fables with my students, I would use the fable, “The Donkey, The Fox, and The Lion” to teach my students about friendship and betrayal. Before reading the fable, I would introduce this concept by having a discussion surrounding the Aristotle conversation about friendship, asking students to share their thoughts about why someone can’t really be a “friend to all.” After reading the short fable, we would refer back to Aristotle’s quote and discuss how the fox tried to befriend both the lion and the donkey, and how his plan ultimately backfired.
